We search the planet for Tripawd dog harnesses but have never found a good one for TriKitties — until now! The Kitty Holster appears to be the best harness for three legged cats whether they are missing a front or rear leg.
If anyone knows something about what Tripawd cats need, it’s Purrkins and his mom Holly. When they told us about the Kitty Holster cat harness we knew it was going to be good.
You see Purrkins is a front-leg cat amputee. And cats or dogs missing a front leg tend to have more challenges finding a good harness that works for their body type.
Purrkins convinced us it was a good one when we saw this video of him walking with the Kitty Holster. He loves getting outside with it on, can you tell?
Right away we knew that if this device works well on Purrkins, it can work on most cats whether they’re missing a front or rear leg. Based on reviews, we can see why so many cat parents love it.
Why the Kitty Holster is the Best Harness for Three-Legged Cats
- Ultra-lightweight 100% breathable, washable cotton. Includes un-dyed cotton lining that’s gentle on cat fur. Also inhibits irritation on delicate skin.
- Easy for cats to wear. Less stressful to your cat and easy for you to put on/take off your cat
- Zero nylon, thin straps or plastic clips which can cause uncomfortable pressure points and skin abrasion
- Many attractive seasonal colors and patterns.
We saw the Kitty Holster in action once. This kitty isn’t a Tripawd, but he went on walks twice a day with his mom. He never looked uncomfortable wearing it.

The Chewy reviews for the harness are outstanding. Most people say it works great for their cat.
What this Tripawd Cat Harness Will and Won’t Do
In many ways this cat harness is just like the Tripawd dog harnesses we recommend. It won’t “support” legs or torso the way humans are used to using something like an Ace bandage.
Since it doesn’t have a handle on it, it won’t help you lift your Tripawd cat either. But it is like Tripawd dog harnesses because it acts as a safety tool. What the Kitty Holster will do is:
Get your Tripawd cat outside into fresh air again. Safely!

Holly and Purrkins! This is a fantastic addition for those who are looking to add outdoor time for their
furrline companions so thank you for sharing AND modeling this so well! ( Although, I must say, I think Jerry meant to say for those of us who need to be walked BY our cats;) Thanks for expanding our knowledge of TriKitty resources!
Hooray for Holly and Purrkins! This is a great idea, I will be checking it out for Feta Cat. 🙂 Feta’s PT staff suggested that sometimes cats are more motivated to do their exercises out-of-doors – it can be fun to go exploring! – so now that the weather is getting nice, we’re going to try some adventuring!
My cat, Trip, has been a tripawd since birth. He is missing a rear leg. Trip likes to escape and run away. Every harness I have purchased has resulted in a sucessful escape. Any suggestions. I apply the harness fairly snug. I have seen him do it several times. He just yanks himself out of it. He is extremely fast and once he’s out of the harness he takes off and he is very hard to catch. I go into panick mode.
Any suggestions?
Great question! Please post in the forums or search the blogs for much more help and feedback about tri-kitties than you will likely get from comments on this blog post.
I highly recommend getting a Pawfit lite tracker, my cat was stray rescue we adopted beautiful baby was indoors & outdoors cat. She got her leg stuck and injured badly and if it wasn’t for the Pawfit lite tracker she would have died, lucky for the tracker I was able to find her. She had to be amputated (one hind leg() only a few days ago we are devastated. When is she fully recovered will use a harness so she still gets to enjoy the outside life but will also have tracker on her just in case she gets out. Hope that helps you we are in the same position that’s how I came across this site.
Thanks for the tip! Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Find plenty of Tri-kitty Tips here and consider joining the Tripawds Support Circle for more help and to connect with others.
What size was those cats wearing?my cat citrus is roughly the same size (maybe bigger) and is missing his front right leg.
my tri cat is obese and has a small neck large body so it’s big and M/L obstructs her one paw, suggestions?
Jae, I’m not sure what other harness would work. How about posting in the Tripawds 3-Legged Cats Discussion Forum? It would be great to find one for her that could work so she can get out and get some exercise. Please work with your vet to do it safely, and check out all our Tripawds Weight Loss articles too. Good luck! See you in the Forums.
My tripod, Kee Kee, likes to go outside, but with his front right leg being gone at the shoulder, finding a harness that won’t shift because he’s missing his shoulder as well is difficult. I hope you can help.
Tripawds cat members agree that the Kitty Holster is best. Consider posting in the Three Legged Cats forum for additional feedback.
Sorry to say….I ended up getting a cat tent and securing the sides. This allows enjoying the outdoors without the panic of slipping out of the harness. Oh and I removed the bottom so he can enjoy the smells!
