Follow your pup’s lead and take breaks whenever necessary. If your dog sits down on a walk, you’ve gone too far. Cut the distance in half next time and slowly lengthen the distance again. Remember to focus on working core muscles, walks don’t develop strength, only endurance.

Confinement is key to safe recovery from any major surgery. Consider using a portable exercise pen to keep recovering pups near you indoors and outside. Use a pet gate in a laundry room or large closet to create a small recovery room. Transport healing dogs to the vet for checkups in a carrier or crate for safety.
