Finding the right kind of bed for your new canine amputee can be challenging. It’s natural to want to get lots of fluffy pillows and thick mattresses for a brand new amputee. And for most dogs, that’s great, but keep in mind that it might not be ideal for brand new three-legged dogs.
Too much padding on your new Tripawd’s dog bed can make it hard for her to stand up and maneuver on. Also, your dog might develop a seroma right after surgery. This fluid drainage at the incision site can last for several days, which means a lot of bedding to wash.
Some Tripawds like Lalla’s Mom came up with creative dog beds. But for the ultimate Tripawd dog bed for new amputees, give the Ruff Wear Flophouse foam pad a try.

The Flophouse is a low-profile dog bed with a crush-proof foam mattress. It’s perfect for new Tripawds with leaky seromas, and for recovered dogs who have just bathed or swam (yes, three legged dogs can swim!).
The durable outer cover is breathable and quick-dry, and actually has side drains that allow moisture to run out. Just run a hose over it to clean it, and watch how quickly it dries. The base foam layer inside is waterproof, and provides moisture barrier on top and bottom of the bed.
After recovery, the Flop House is great for camping and road trips. Roll it up and it retains it’s shape!
